Deacon
John Sommer was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1955 and is from a family of
eight. He has been married to Michelle for 33 years and they have
two children, Jaclyn and Andrew, both young adults. They have
lived in Omaha, Houston, TX, Topeka, KS and here in Bixby, OK.
He
attended the Diaconate Formation sponsored by the Diocese of Tulsa and
was Ordained on June 12, 2011, Pentecost Sunday at Holy Family
Cathedral, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
His passion are the youths of
our faith and of the world. He looks forward to the dynamics of
bringing the Catholic faith and Christ into the youth’s lives. To
assist them in their struggles of how their faith can be practiced in a
world of confusion and one without God. His father’s died when he
was 14 years of age and this has given him his desired to work with the
youth. He has been working with the youth for the past 10 years,
attended two World Youth Days, each in Germany and Spain and lead
various retreats for them.
His hobbies include some golf, movies with Michelle and photography. He has been a member of the parish for 12 years.
