Named for
Tams Bixby, an early leader of the Creek tribe, Bixby was established
in 1899. Building materials, sequestered by wartime priorities, became
available after the war, leading to a wave of new parishes in and
around Tulsa, including St. Clement's parish. The parish was begun in
1957 to serve the needs of migrant workers harvesting fruit and
vegetable fields in the rich soil along the Arkansas River. The next
year its multi-purpose building was erected on a ten-acre site at 155th
and Memorial. Except for some minor expansions and renovations, the
property is essentially as it was in the beginning.
